Faculty of Built Environment (FBE)
The Faculty of Built Environment (FBE) provides five professional undergraduate programs designed to address the labor demands of the construction and real estate industries. These programs are all nationally and internationally certified. The Board of Architects Malaysia (LAM) has recognized their Bachelor of Science in Architecture as Part I, whilst our 2-year Bachelor of Architecture program leads to Part I recognition. The same programs have also received certification from the Royal Institute of British Architecture (RIBA, UK), resulting in Part I and Part II accreditation, respectively. As the first program in Malaysia to be recognized by RIBA and as one of four institutions in East Asia, RIBA’s recognition is regarded as a significant accomplishment.

Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL)
On March 3, 1972, the Faculty of Languages and Linguistics (FLL) of the University of Malaya was established as a Language Centre. The Center was responsible for offering language courses pertinent to the university’s needs.

Faculty of Engineering

Faculty of Education
The Faculty of Education was established in 1963 under the name School of Education. The School of Education provided the postgraduate Diploma in Education to graduates who want to join the teaching field. In July 1965, the institution was elevated to faculty rank due to its fast growth. Two years later, in 1967, the Master of Education (M.Ed.) program was created, and in 1969, the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) program was introduced.
Since its founding, the Faculty of Education has taught almost 20,000 successful graduates. More than 15,000 have graduated with a Diploma in Education, over 2,282 with a Master’s degree, and around 3,500 with a Bachelor’s degree in Education.

Faculty of Business and Economics
Initially, business and accounting courses were given via the Faculty of Economics and Administration (FEA). In 1997, the Faculty of Business and Accountancy was established to concentrate solely on business and accounting studies (FBA). The International Institute of Public Policy and Management (INPUMA) was formed in 1999 with the intention of giving training in public policy. In September 2021, as a result of the new reorganization, FEA, FBA, and INPUMA merged to become the Faculty of Business and Economics. This has allowed us to become one of the largest faculties at UM, with four Bachelor’s, eleven Master’s, and two Doctoral programs.

Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology
Midway through 1967, the University of Malaya (UM) started providing computer facilities and services, shortly after the Computer Centre was formally established in 1965. This also established the institution as a pioneer in the use of computers in Malaysia. In December 1969, the Computer Centre added the teaching and research of computer science and information technology to its responsibilities. The Computer Centre Board was established with the Vice Chancellor (as Chairman), the Director of the Computer Centre (as Secretary), and a representation from each university Faculty, Institute, and Center, as well as the University Senate.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences
Established in 1959, the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences is one of the most dynamic within University Malaya. Faculty of Creative Arts
The origins of the Faculty of Creative Arts may be traced back to 1970, when the Office of Public Affairs, University Malaya, established the Culture Unit. The Culture Unit was renamed the Cultural Centre in 1975 and now reports directly to the university’s Chancellery. They were charged for organizing arts and cultural events for the college community and the general public.

Faculty of Law

Faculty of Sport and Exercise Science
In 1986, the Sports Centre was created. In 1995, it was the first institution of higher education in Malaysia to offer a Bachelor of Sports Science degree. In addition to its academic curriculum, the Centre coordinates sports activities and extracurricular courses, as well as the use of all campus sports facilities.

Faculty of Science
Among the University’s most distinguished and oldest schools is the Faculty of Science. It first opened its doors in 1959 with four departments: botany, chemistry, mathematics, and zoology. There are now two institutes and four departments under the Faculty of Science’s new names: the Institute of Biological Sciences, the Institute of Mathematical Science, the Department of Chemistry, the Department of Physics, the Department of Geology, and the Department of Science & Technology Studies.

Faculty of Medicine
The Faculty of Medicine at Universiti Malaya has been at the Lembah Pantai campus for almost 50 years. In that time, it has trained thousands of doctors, pharmacists, biomedical engineers, and nurses who have gone on to serve the country in both public and private service. In recent years, the Faculty has been at the forefront of the postgraduate clinical training program that leads to a Master of Medicine degree in a wide range of medical specialties. It also has graduate programs that lead to an MSc or Ph.D. in pharmacy, nursing, and molecular medicine, among other biomedical fields.

Faculty of Dentistry
The Faculty of Dentistry of the University of Malaya (UM) is the oldest and most prestigious dentistry school in Malaysia. The teaching of dentistry at the University of Malaya has a long history that can be traced back to the establishment of the Dental Department at the King Edward VII College of Medicine in Federation of Malaya (1927-1949) and the Department of Dentistry, University of Malaya in Singapore (1949-1961), which later merged with the University of Singapore (1962-1980) after the passing of legislation in 1961. 1971 saw the reestablishment of the University of Malaya’s Dental Faculty in Kuala Lumpur.
