Faculty of Agriculture

Faculty of Agriculture will be affected by the reorganization process at University Putra Malaysia beginning on January 1, 1999. Restructuring is predicated on the concept of combining or integrating the primary components of agricultural systems, which include crop, animal, soil, technology, and management. The Faculty of Agriculture presently consists of seven departments: Crop Science, Animal Science, Plant Protection, Land Management, Agribusiness and Information System, Agriculture Technology, and Aquaculture.

Master of Agriculture Science, Master of Science, Master of Land Resource Management, Master of Plantation Management, Master of Sustainable Land Management, and PhD degrees are also available at the postgraduate level.

Faculty of Biotechnology and Biomolecular Sciences

BioTech UPM provides Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programs for graduate study. Faculty of Science

In July 1972, the Basic Sciences Unit was established, which marked the beginning of the Faculty of Science. Biology, Chemistry, Physics, and Mathematics were all represented. The goal at the time was to provide courses required by students in the first year Diploma and Bachelor Degree programs in Agriculture, Forestry, and Veterinary Medicine. The Diploma Science with Education program was also available at the Unit.

Faculty of Medicine and Health Science

On 1 August 1996, the Department of Bio-Medical of the Faculty of Veterinary and Animal Science and the Department of Nutrition and Community Health of the Faculty of Human Ecology merged to become the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences. Now, there are (23) twenty-three departments in the Faculty.

Faculty of Design and Architecture

In 1976, a proposal titled “Proposed Establishment of the Faculty of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture” was presented to the Faculty of Agriculture with the intention of establishing the Faculty of Design and Architecture at UPM. However, the suggestion was never presented to the Faculty’s administration for further consideration. Notwithstanding, in 1980 a group of Landscape Architecture instructors were hired to teach “landscape subjects” in the diploma and bachelor’s degree programs in agriculture.

Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication

Faculty of Modern Languages and Communication can be traced back to the establishment of the National Language Division (Bahagian Bahasa Kebangsaan) and the English Language Division (Bahagian Bahasa Inggeris) at the Agriculture College of Malaya (Kolej Pertanian Malaya) upon the implementation of the Language Act of 1976. In 1971, the two departments were merged to establish the Language Division, which was raised to the Language Department in 1972 and put under the Faculty of Agriculture.

Faculty of Food Science and Technology

In 1976, the Department of Food Science and Technology was founded inside the Faculty of Agriculture, marking the beginning of what would eventually become the Faculty of Food Science and Technology. The country’s need for more qualified workers in the emerging sector of scientifically-based food inspired the creation of the department.

Faculty of Science

With the founding of the Basic Sciences Unit in July 1972, the Faculty of Science was established. The Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry Departments were also a part of it. The original intent was to provide the foundational agricultural, forestry, and veterinary medicine coursework required of first-year students in diploma and bachelor’s degree programs. The Diploma in Science with Teacher Certification was another option offered by the Unit.

Faculty of Educational Studies

The Faculty of Educational Studies was founded on January 15, 1975, and was originally known as the Faculty of Educational Services, in keeping with its responsibilities at the time. The faculty provided courses to students enrolled in the Diploma in Science with Education and Bachelor of Science with Education programs offered by the Faculty of Science and the Environment. In addition to these courses, the faculty provided electives and general courses that were taken by students from other faculties at Universiti Pertanian Malaysia at the time.

Faculty of Engineering

From its modest beginnings in 1975 as the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering with just four departments, UPM’s Faculty of Engineering has developed to become one of the premier engineering institutions in Malaysia. Currently, the Faculty comprises eight dynamic departments providing eight Bachelor programs and 34 postgraduate degrees, with a combined undergraduate and graduate enrolment of over 3000.

Faculty of Veterinary Medicine

In 1973, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) launched the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. University of Putra Malaysia (UPM) and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Science (FVM&AS) have changed names throughout the years. There are now six departments within the Faculty, three of which were established in 2013.

During the transition from Universiti Pertanian Malaysia to University Putra Malaysia, the Faculty of Forestry and Environment was one of the original faculties. On 1 March 2020, the Faculty of Forestry amalgamated with the Faculty of Environmental Studies to establish the Faculty of Forestry and Environment.
