Faculty of Agriculture
Faculty of Agriculture is one of the three Pioneer faculties that contributed to the 1971 founding of University Pertanian Malaysia (now University Putra Malaysia).
Beginning with seven departments, the majority of these departments were later transformed into numerous more faculties. Faculty of Agriculture at the end of 1998 had three academic departments: Department of Agronomy and Horticulture, Department of Plant Protection, and Department of Soil Science.
Faculty of Agriculture will be affected by the reorganization process at University Putra Malaysia beginning on January 1, 1999. Restructuring is predicated on the concept of combining or integrating the primary components of agricultural systems, which include crop, animal, soil, technology, and management. The Faculty of Agriculture presently consists of seven departments: Crop Science, Animal Science, Plant Protection, Land Management, Agribusiness and Information System, Agriculture Technology, and Aquaculture.
Bachelor of Agricultural Science, Bachelor of Horticultural Science, Bachelor of Science (Agribusiness), Bachelor of Agriculture (Aquaculture), and Bachelor of Agriculture are now offered by the Faculty of Agriculture (Animal Science).

Faculty of Design and Architecture
In 1976, a proposal titled “Proposed Establishment of the College of Horticulture and Landscape Architecture” was presented to the Faculty of Agriculture with the intention of establishing the faculty of design and architecture at UPM. The suggestion was never brought up for further consideration by the administration of the Faculty. Notwithstanding, in 1980 a group of Landscape Architecture instructors were hired to teach “landscape themes” in both the diploma and bachelor of agriculture degrees. In 1984, the first landscape course was given. “AGRO 472 – An Approach to Landscape Design” was a three-credit course. It became a popular subject and was able to attract many agricultural students who eventually graduated and pursued undergraduate and graduate degrees in landscape architecture abroad. Numerous of these early graduates have now returned to the nation and resumed thriving practices or became professors at various institutes of higher education.
